The European Union (EU) covers an overall area of 4 million km² and counts 28 member states. With a total population of roughly 511 million people, the EU, after China and India, has the world’s third largest population figures. Despite an ageing population, Europe recorded a slight growth which is primarily due to the migration movement.

Global trading power Europe

Europe’s annual economic growth is approximately 2 %. 2017’s gross domestic product totalled € 15,330 million. Especially falling unemployment figures have a positive impact on European spending.

The industrial nation of Europe is one of the three big players in international trade. 20 % of global imports and exports take place between the EU and the rest of the world. Intra-union trading at 62 % of the EU’s total trade is the most relevant.

Important markets for the toy sector in Europe

The European market, with sales for toys and leisure activities worth almost € 55 million, is one of the most important ones globally. Further growth is forecast. The highest sales figures were reached in Great Britain, Germany and France. These European countries are also in the top 10 of the world’s biggest toy markets. Spain and Italy are also relevant toy markets in Europe.
