South America

Brazil: South America’s growth market

South America consists of twelve independent countries and spans 18 million square kilometres. The continent is home to some 400 million people. Improved living conditions in urban areas means there is a strong trend towards urbanisation in many of the countries. Lots of big new cities have sprung up as a result.

The South American economy

In spite of political turmoil, the economies of many of the countries are growing, mainly due to the continent’s mineral resources. The industrial sector plays a rather subordinate role. The gap between rich and poor is significant and widening in most of the countries. Nevertheless, the trend in living standards is positive as a whole in many of them.

Key markets in South America

South America has a relatively young population due to the high birth rate. Because of this, the continent offers a number of interesting markets for the toy sector. Brazil is even in the top 10 of the world’s largest toy markets and there are attractive opportunities to enter these markets in the region. Chile is the only industrialised country and is regarded as the continent’s most prosperous country, followed by its direct neighbour Argentina.
